I guess all I needed to do was complain about not getting sales on Etsy, because yesterday someone bought something! What a nice surprise. Is this the Secret working? LOL

Sample Padded Netbook Cover
July 20, 2009
I got netbook for my birthday! Since it is so shiny and cute, I didn’t want it to get all scratched up or damaged when I was carrying it around. So I decided to make a padded sleeve for it for protection. I used this super cute mushroom fabric called Tillbrook Toadstool in lime green and just a bright pink solid for the inside lining. In between the two, I used fusible fleece as the padding, and to give it some body to stiffen it up. I am mostly happy how it turned out, if I did it again for this netbook, I would make it about an inch shorter in height, just for a closer fit. Width wise it is perfect. I also would have boxed the corners to give it a little depth. Overall, this was a pretty simple project. I am thinking of offering these in my etsy shop as custom orders, that way I can make them to fit the customer’s specific laptop dimensions. I feel like this is a useful thing that people would also like to have fit their personality with the fabric choices. My etsy shop hasn’t sold anything in a while, I’m hoping this would help boost my sales.
Self Promotion

I added a twitter feed for Janmade, its on the right side of the page under the link to my etsy shop. I also lowered all the prices in my etsy shop to 8.00 so if you are interested in a tie dye baby onesie or some soft soled shoes come and get it! I would like to clear out some of these items before I add new items to the shop.
For anyone reading this, you can get any 4 items in my shop for 28.00 if you mention “RAINBOW” in the comments section when you purchase. I will make the adjustment in Paypal after the sale. Happy Shopping and thank you for reading!

I know I haven’t posted in a month, but hopefully I will be posting more regularly in the future. Sometimes life gets in the way, to use an old cliche. But I am excited to announce I finally opened my etsy shop! I am very excited to have followed through on this. I started out by posting 20 items. I will be adding new things every Monday. I haven’t figured out yet how to add the etsy mini widget to my blog, but I have added a link to the right that you can click on to go shopping!

new fabric!
January 22, 2009
All the fabric I ordered finally came in that I ordered from fabric.com and equilter (neither of which sent me the aformentioned wonky fat quarters). After new years, they both had really good sales on their designer fabric, so I kindof went crazy. I got some Michael Miller, Denyse Schmidt Katie Jump Rope – yay!, Kaffe Fassett, Amy Butler, Heather Ross and some other random things. I haven’t yet really accumulated a stash, so this was my beginning. I have random fabrics left over from projects, but I wanted to have more of a variety so I can do things more on the fly, giving me more options and room to experiment. Until now, I have worked by deciding a project, picking out the fabric specifically for the project, then making it. But I think I like having the freedom of having options right there when the mood strikes me to start something.
I got quite a lot of “cute” fabrics because I will start making some baby quilts soon. I’ve been drafting some patterns for some baby quilts I am really excited about and I think will be a good start to my etsy store. I have so much to do before I can open it, but at least things are moving forward. I’ve been reading the book Craft, Inc and it has been really inspirational as far as giving a lot of insight and direction on how to organize a hobby business. So right now I’m in the process of picking out and having made fabric labels, creating a logo and banners with help from my amazingly talented friend Christine, making business cards, tags…and I’m sure there is something I am forgetting.
I guess I am just a perfectionist at heart, and I have been considering opening this shop for a while. So I am committing to doing it “right” – whatever my definition of that is. And I want to have all of that ready and done before I open the store, because for me that is the best way to do it.
